We were so thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with Shoes for the Shoeless and provide new shoes for all of these students. Seeing the excitement on their faces as they picked out shoes that were just right for them was truly special.
Shoes for the Shoeless is a wonderful organization that works to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children in our community. Their team was kind, organized, and incredibly thoughtful throughout the entire event. Everything ran so smoothly, which allowed our students to enjoy the experience and feel supported every step of the way.
We are so grateful for organizations like Shoes for the Shoeless that recognize the needs of our students and step in to help. A new pair of shoes may seem like a simple gift, but for a child, it can mean confidence, comfort, and knowing that their community cares about them.
A huge thank you to everyone at Shoes for the Shoeless for making this event possible and for the positive impact you have on our students. We are truly grateful for your generosity and for the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful experience!

For students who are participating in the 5th Grade picture day at Medway, please complete all forms and ordering information as though you are still at NCES. Be sure to follow the online directions and use the order forms that were sent home.
This is important so that all of the photos are placed in our NCES picture portal.
Thank you for taking care of this ahead of picture day!
If you have any questions please call the office.

Attendance Expectations
Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in student success. We appreciate your partnership in helping your child arrive at school on time and ready to learn each day.
When a student is absent, the absence will be coded in one of the following ways:
- Green – Excused Absence: Supported by appropriate documentation, such as a doctor's note, funeral notice, or other approved reason.
- Yellow – Parent/Guardian Excused Absence: Excused by a parent or guardian. Please note that students are limited to 8 parent-excused absences per school year.
- Red – Unexcused Absence: An absence that does not meet excused criteria or is not properly reported.
We love celebrating great attendance! Students have opportunities to earn recognition and rewards for perfect attendance on both a weekly and monthly basis.
Thank you for helping us make attendance a priority and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to learn and grow each day.

Parent Teacher Conferences
|
Dear NCES Families,
We want to let you know that parent-teacher conferences will be postponed due to the recent fire in our building. Our priority right now is making sure our students and staff are safe and that we can all return to our building together.
As soon as we are back in our building and have a better understanding of our schedule, we will select a new date for conferences. I will communicate the new date with families as soon as it is finalized.
Once the new date is set, teachers will reach out directly to families to schedule individual conference times.
We appreciate your patience, understanding, and flexibility as we work through this unexpected situation. We are looking forward to being back together in our building and connecting with all of you soon.
Thank you for your continued support of NCES!

Chromebooks are an important learning tool, and we ask students to help us take good care of them so they remain in great condition for everyone.
Please remind your child to:
- Keep their Chromebook in its protective case at all times.
- Avoid placing stickers on, drawing on, or marking the Chromebook or case.
- Handle the device carefully and use it only for its intended purpose.
- Leave all keys, keyboard parts, and other components intact.
Intentional damage, such as removing keys, taking apart parts of the Chromebook, or other misuse, can result in repair costs and loss of privileges.
Students who have more than two incidents of Chromebook misuse may lose Chromebook privileges at school.
Thank you for helping us teach responsible technology use and care for school equipment.

To help students stay focused on learning and minimize distractions, cell phones, smart watches, and wireless earbuds must be turned off and stored in student cubbies throughout the school day.
Students should put these devices away before getting off the bus in the morning and keep them stored until they board the bus at the end of the day. Devices should not be used during the school day unless specifically authorized by school staff.
We appreciate your support in helping students follow this expectation so that our classrooms remain focused on learning and engagement.

Helping Us Keep Students Safe: Office Communication Procedures |
We need your help with an important safety and communication procedure.
If you need to make any transportation changes, communicate time-sensitive information or needs for your child, you must contact the school office directly not the classroom teacher.
Our teachers are actively teaching throughout the day and may not see emails, messages, or app notifications in time to act on them. In addition, when a teacher is absent and a substitute is in the classroom, messages sent to the teacher may not be received at all. This can result in important information being missed and creates safety concerns for students.
The most reliable and safest way to ensure your message is received and acted upon is to call the school office. Office staff immediately communicate changes to the appropriate staff members and ensure your child’s needs are handled correctly.
Please help us keep all students safe and dismissal running smoothly by contacting the office first for:
- Transportation changes
- Medication / medical information
- Early pick-ups
- Any urgent or same-day student needs
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us support a safe and organized school day for all students.

At NCES, students have the opportunity to earn positive referrals from staff for going above and beyond. We are incredibly proud of those students who have received positive referrals each month!
When students earn a positive referral, their photo is taken and they receive a special reward, either a bracelet, candy, or a pencil. In addition, their photo is proudly displayed in the hallway and they are recognized during our morning announcements. It's a truly exciting moment for our students!
WAY TO GO, KIDS!!!
You’re setting a great example for others.
Keep up the amazing work!

A culture playbook is a shared guide that explains what our school community believes in and how we work together every day. It outlines our core values, expectations, and common practices so that students, staff, and families all have a clear understanding of what our school culture looks like in action.
In our school setting, the culture playbook helps define how we treat one another, how we support student learning and behavior, and how we partner with families. It provides consistency across classrooms and grade levels, reinforces positive behaviors, and ensures that everyone is working toward the same goals. For parents, it serves as a transparent reference for what to expect from the school and how to support those expectations at home.

Take a look below at the information about our Culture Playbook.

We want to ensure students stay on track when they are absent, and we appreciate your support in this process. Lately, we have had a high number of requests for homework to be sent home immediately. Please understand that our teachers are in the classroom teaching all day, and preparing homework packets takes time. To ensure requests are completed accurately, homework requests must be submitted at least 24 hours in advance.
Homework Requests: Homework requests will be accepted for students who have been absent two or more consecutive days. No additional homework requests will be processed until previously requested assignments have been returned completed. All homework sent home is due upon the student’s return to school.
Make-Up Work: Upon returning to school after an absence, students are responsible for contacting each teacher to obtain any necessary make-up work. Assignments must be completed by the date designated by the teacher, typically one day per day of absence. Please remember that make-up work is the student’s responsibility, not the teacher’s.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as our teachers balance preparing make-up work with providing instruction for all students. Your support helps us ensure that every student receives the attention and guidance they need to succeed.
Most importantly, our goal is for students to get better and return to school as soon as possible, because regular attendance is critical to their learning and overall success. While make-up work helps keep students on track, nothing can fully replace being present in class, participating in lessons, and engaging with peers.
Our Homework Policy is In the Elementary Handbook on page 20.

Safer Ohio School Tip Line
The Safer Ohio School Tip Line is a free safety resource available to all Ohio schools. The tip line is an anonymous reporting system that accepts both calls and texts 24 hours a day.
This tip line allows students and adults to anonymously share information with school officials and law enforcement about threats to student safety—whether that involves a threatened mass incident or harm to a single student.
Things to report to the tip line include (but are not limited to):
- Bullying incidents;
- Withdrawn student behaviors;
- Verbal or written threats observed toward students, faculty or schools;
- Weapon/suspicious devices on or near school grounds;
- Gang related activities;
- Unusual/suspicious behavior of students or staff;
- Self-harm or suicidal sentiments; and
- Any other school safety related concerns.
Every tip can remain anonymous. School safety analysts may ask for additional information, but the caller can remain secret or leave his or her contact information for later follow-up.
Calls or texts to 844-SaferOH (844-723-3764) are answered by analysts within Ohio Homeland Security. If action is needed, the analysts immediately forward information to local school officials, law enforcement agencies and the Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) for action and follow up.
The OSSC partners with the Ohio Department of Education to follow up with affected school and law enforcement agencies to make sure that the incident is investigated, action is taken and resources and supports are provided when necessary.

The Education Connection is a telephone number that you can call 24-hours a day to listen to your child’s homework assignments, report your child’s absence, hear the lunch menu, find out the scores of the big game, hear about school closings and leave a private message for a staff member.
You will still need to call your child in if they will not be attending school, or doing their online work for the day. We will still need to document attendance. We are marking students with green, yellow and red attendance.
Please use the TEC number for:
- Calling your child in sick.
- Leave a voicemail with questions.
- 937-845-4483
