TMS Building Expectations

Posted Date: 08/21/26 (03:00 PM)

TMS Families,

This week, each grade level met with TMS administration to go over building expectations. Students sat through a presentation delivered by administration and then learned about what it means to be Respectful, Accountable, and to Demonstrate Self Control in our common areas (cafeteria, hallways, restrooms, and arrival/dismissal). I wanted to share with families what specifically administration went over in our meetings with students. This will ensure everyone is on the same page and understands what is expected from our students each day.

1) Students are expected to be active participants in their learning. They should participate in class, complete assignments, and ask questions.
2) Students should help to create a positive culture in our building by being respectful, polite, and supportive of each other.
3) If students are having difficulty with peers, they are encouraged to talk to either Mr. Hauf, Mrs. McFarland, Mrs. Elliott, or Mrs. Perkins.
4) Students should never open exterior doors to anyone, even if they know them. If they see something that doesn't look or feel right, they should let a staff member know right away.
5) Attendance - if absent, it will be coded one of three ways - Green = excused absence (doctor's note, funeral, etc); Yellow = parent/guardian excused absence LIMITED TO 8 PER SCHOOL YEAR; Red = unexcused absence; If students are tardy to school more than 2 times, they will be issued a minor referral. Students are rewarded for their perfect attendance, both weekly and monthly.
6) Dress Code - can be found on page 12 in the student agenda
7) Students must use their agenda when in the hallway other than class change. Their agenda is their hall pass.
8) Study Hall - students are expected to work on assignments during study hall. They are not permitted to play games on their chromebook.
9) Chromebook - students need to take care of them. They should not put stickers or draw on them. The chromebook should be kept in its case at all times. Students should refrain from intentionally destroying their chromebook (taking keys off, taking the keyboard plate off, etc.). More than two incidents of chromebook misuse will result in the student losing chromebook privileges.
10) Breakfast and lunch are free for all students everyday.
11) Restrooms are closed between classes. Students are to use the restroom closest to the classroom they are leaving and should use the restroom only for its intended purpose.
12) Minor Referrals - for minor violations of the student code of conduct. Minor referrals 1-4 are warnings. On the 5th minor referral, students will receive a 1 hour after school detention. Minor referrals reset at the beginning of each quarter.
13) Cell phones/Smart Watches/ wireless earbuds are to be turned off and kept in their locker at all times. Students should put these devices away before they get off the bus and they should remain away until they get on the bus. Cell phone violations will result in the phone being taken and a parent/guardian has to pick it up in the front office. Additional violations result in additional consequences.
14) There is no gum allowed in the common areas (cafeteria, gym, hallways, restrooms).
15) Students are permitted to carry a water bottle with them throughout the day, but it must be clear or lightly tinted and have a cap/lid. Staff must be able to tell what type of liquid is inside the bottle.
16) Social Probation - students who are on social probation cannot participate in extra curricular activities (dances, Kona Ice, field trips). Students will be placed on social probation if they haven't completed Final Forms, have outstanding school feeds, are missing 10% or more of instructional days with a red slip, have multiple office referrals, or are failing 3 of their 4 core classes (ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies). Students will be notified when they are placed on social probation and when they are taken off.
17) Positive Recognition - Arrow Cards (first in line for lunch, leave one minute early at end of day, quarterly reward); Kona Ice - monthly; positive PBIS points that students can cash in for prizes.
18) Dances - we have a dance once a quarter. Students may attend dances if they have not had ALC or OSS during the quarter of the dance, have Final Forms completed, have no outstanding school fees, and are not on social probation.
19) Final Forms must be completed by September 30, 2026
20) Students were encouraged to embrace challenges, rise to meet expectations, to ask for help, and to be kind to one another.

I apologize for the lengthy post.
Thank you.
